Party Invitation

Party Invitations: What Does RSVP Means

When a person or group of people wants to celebrate their success or any special day of their lives, throwing a party is their best option. Planning a party requires time and great effort but if you start with the right step the rest will be lot easier. And the best way to start is the invitations. This way you will know how many guests will be attending your party. How: through the RSVP card or response card.

You will often see RSVP on party invites; but not every body knows what RSVP means. RSVP is a French acronym for “respondez s’il vouz plait” that means “respond if you please”. This means that when you are invited to a party you must inform the host if you are coming or not. If you plan to attend the party, confirm your attendance; if you don’t have any plan of going simply call the party host or check the “not coming” box in the response card and send it back. This is the proper and most courteous thing to do. This way you are helping the host to plan the party well.

Before you confirm if you are attending the party or not you must consider doing these simple steps:

  1. Check your schedule. Check your planner or your calendar for the party date. See if you don’t have important things to do on the said date. Make sure that you are free before confirming your attendance.
  2. Ask yourself if you want to go or not. If you don’t want to go say it straight to the party host or write a brief explanation to the response card. If you love to go then be sure to prioritize the event for that day. Make up your mind and stick to your decision.

Sometimes the invitation has RSVP written on the lower part with the host contact numbers especially on less formal occasion. But if you are invited on a formal gathering, invitation often comes with RSVP card or response card. But there are some instances wherein there is no RSVP on the invitation; still you have to respond. If you have a habit of not responding to party invites, you will create an impression that you are rude and inconsiderate. That is why it is very important to respond to invites and you must do it within the next 24 hours of receiving the invites. If you have certain issues like you are a

vegetarian or you have allergies on certain foods, you can also inform the host through the RSVP card or a simple call. Another thing, if you are going to the party and you want to tag along another person or your kids, check the invitation first. If it says “one person invite” then, you should follow the rule but you can always check it to the host. Ask her or him nicely if you could tag along someone. Always remember that when you are invited to a party you must be courteous, understand and follow the rules.
